I have always said that part of my problem is that other than being fat, and the discomforts and problems that come with it, my life is really great. I have an awesome husband and son. This makes for a very happy home. I have a good job (even though I am at somewhat of a standstill and bored). I have a great family and wonderful friends. My weight doesn't touch this. And other than my leg cramps, I really don't have any health problems.
Well, now I do...
I am pre-diabetic. My fasting blood glucose level is 106. 100-125 is considered pre-diabetic. I asked my doctor if I lost weight if I could turn this around and he said that I could at least prevent full blown diabetes for another 10-15 years if not prevent it completely.
I have high cholesterol.
My Total Cholesterol is 267. This is high, the recommended is less than 200. This is up from last time I had it checked 2 years ago.
My HDL (The good cholesterol) is 67. This is Excellent, the recommended range is over 45, optimal is over 60. (Some good news!)
My LDL (The bad cholesterol) is 169. This is High Risk, optimal is less than 100.
My Triglycerides are 154. This is acceptable, the recommended range is less than 150.
OK, time for action. I am going to focus on lowering the cholesterol because I believe that everything I do for that will bring the Blood Glucose level to where it needs to be.
I know I need to up my fiber. I will shoot for 25-30 grams a day. Whole grains will need to play a big role in that. I have no idea how much fiber I get on a daily basis. Even when I am on plan, I just count calories. I may have to switch back to fitday for while. We'll see.
Exercise plays a big role in this too. I still do my water aerobics twice a week, so that's where I start. My goal will be to add in 2-3 days of additional exercise. Summer is coming, so some dog walking should help. It would be nice to add that in every day on top of 2-3 additional days at the gym, but let's be realistic. You need to crawl before you can walk.
I pretty much eat low-fat dairy except for my cheese on my sandwich. That can easily be switched. And I only eat butter occasionally...I will buy some smart-balance.
I know from the tests I had a few months ago that I do not have any heart problems right now. Let's keep it that way!!
Wish me luck as I try this AGAIN!!!!
A dear freind of mine said "I have control, I'm in the drivers seat, and I know exactly what to do (and not do). I can choose to be fat or I can choose to be fit and healthy. It's not easy to make the right choices, for sure, but they're our choices to make." Words to live by.

Good Luck to you Sandi.
I like the quote that you put at the end of your post. It's so true. I fell off the wagon last week. I have to get myself motivated and back on track. I'll try to remember your quote when I'm trying to resist some chocolate this week! :)
Sandi, look at the photos you posted - you have so much to live for!
Sandi.. I"m so happy that you are posting again on 3FC. If I could reach out and give you a hug I would. Baby steps.. baby steps. Put one foot in front of the other in the right direction and you will get where you need to be.
Love ya!
Dana

Do watch the diabetes, creeps up slowly and then bam, its there full force with all the related complications. Im 42 years old and have it, and horrible complications from it, simply from not taking it seriously. Make those changes and it will be controlled...and stay on top of it. You can do it!
I was watching Dr. Phil the other day. The guests were two anorexia sufferers and he asked them if the health issues weren't enough to make them change their ways. They acknowledged they are scared and want to be healthy, yet struggle with what must be done. Its no different at the other end of the spectrum. Everyone deserves to be healthy and happy. If you need help, please seek it. I want so much for my friend to be happy AND healthy :)
