I have been realizing that in order to do this once and for all and stick with it FOR LIFE, that I need to get real about the changes that I need to make. Steve & I did a good job this week of not having dessert. Instead of trying to "allow" calories for it, we are trying to retrain our brains that we do not need something sweet after dinner. I plan to allow myself something sweet on special occasions and that's about it. For instance Bunko was at my house Friday night and I served a 5 layer cheesecake. And I had some. It was really delicious. I figure special occasions come up often enough that I can have a treat and not completely deprive myself, but a change has to be made somewhere. So the nightly dessert is gone.
And then there is exercise. I really can't wait for Spring because I plan to take frequent long walks to get in more exercise. Today we really didn't feel like going to the gym, so we went and walked the mall. I was very proud of us that we did not buy any food.
Jacob is not really sure what to make of all this. Steve and I have teamed up and we are sticking to this. Yesterday he wanted burgers for lunch..NO. This morning, he asked me if we could get donuts for breakfast..NO. He wanted a pretzel at the mall..NO. We have explained to him that we are eating healthier and making better choices, but I think it'll take a while of consistency before he really gets it. I have been focusing on teaching him moderation, portion control and better choices.
No matter what the scale says in the morning, I feel like I had a good week.
I have been keeping my eyes peeled. Johnny Depp and Christian Bale are in town filming a movie!!! :)

Wow! Johnny Depp in Indiana of all places! Let us know if you see them!
Sandi I read your other post. You and I are so much alike it is scary! I do the same thing you do--get a really good start and then fall apart somewhere along the way.
I can see now that I would not qualify for surgery either because I am "too healthy", even though my blood sugar's out of the normal range. So, girlfriend, we gotta do this ourselves! and we CAN!! I am cheering for you!!!

that was one of my big things was getting something sweet after dinner. What I did in the beginning was plan for a healthy after-dinner snack. I did eat it for about a week but now I don't even bother planning it. If I do find myself still hungry after dinner, I will eat a piece of fruit or something.
You are doing so great!!!!!
Sandi, I'm counting on you to tackle Johnny if you see him. Just hold him there, and I'll be landing shortly. ;)
