Successful 1st week!

As you know, we (Steve & I) started (again!) last Thursday. The results are in! I lost 6.4 and Steve lost 5.8! Woo Hoo!! We had a really good week and a really good weekend. My calorie average was 1747 which is right where I want to be.

I worked out every day, totaling 2 hours and 5 mins of cardio. I have been having calf & hamstring cramps which made me wonder if I should ease up on the exercise. Come to find out (from the infinite wisdom of Meg from 3FC) that I have been doing the elliptical machine all wrong. There are 2 settings on the precor machine that I use. One is incline and the other is resistance. Resistance is from 1 to 20. 1 being the easiest and 20 being impossible. The incline is also 1 to 20, so logically you'd think 1 was the easiest. Well, it might be, but it's also at a decline. See 10 is level, 20 is a max incline and 1 is a max decline. So I have been doing it all this time at a decline. We think that might be the reason for all the cramps. So yesterday I tried it out at a 10 incline. OMG!! Was it hard. I could only do 4 mins where I was doing 20 before with the incline set at a 1. So I am kind of starting over with that machine, but we hope that will help with the cramps. I still have a cramp in my left hamstring, but tonight is water aerobics, so that should help it ease up. It feels good to be at the gym, around healthy fit people. They say that you should surround yourself with people you want to be like.

Jacob had his last basketball game on Saturday and then yesterday he had a friend over for a few hours to play. 2 little boys sure are a lot more work than 1 little boy.

I had to take my kitty to the vet, she is getting thin and has been having loose stool. He says everything looks fine, but they took some blood and I'll get those results back today. I might just have to face the fact that the cats are getting old. I wish Bailey & them got along better. I feel bad that they stay downstairs. Thank goodness Bailey won't go downstairs.

Yay Sandi! I am so proud of you!

Don't feel bad about only being able to do a few minutes on the elliptical on a 10 (flat) incline. You're using different muscles now, but hopefully in the long run it will help with the lower leg issues. Honestly, I'd be in pain too if I worked out at a decline of 1 all the time!

Awesome start for you and Steve!!! WTG!!

Funny you should say about the ellitpical - I usually do an incline of 6 and a resistance of 2 and wondered if I was getting it right?? I'm going to try a higher setting and/or the interval program today.

Keep up the great work -- Kim

I'm so happy to hear that you and Steve had such great results after one week and that next week will be just as good or even better!

Take care,

Jen

Sandi.. what a great start! I'm proud of you :) My first time on the ellitpical I could barely do 1 minute!! I thought I was going to die. I worked up to 20 minutes - but that machine is a killer. I haven't been on it for about 4 years.. yikes. Add 30 seconds a week... you can do it!!
