Here it is Monday morning and I am trying again. I don't feel all pumped up and motivated, but I did pack my lunch, have plans for the YMCA after work. So it's a start. I know you are all tired of hearing about how I'm going to do this and I never follow through. Can't blame you, I'm tired of it too. I almost stayed away because of it. But the purpose of this blog is to document my journey. Yes, my journey has been littered with failure, but that's been my journey so far. I am not going to hide from who I am.
I am at 334.4 this morning. Still down from my all time high of 339. I am clinging to that tiny bit of success. I am trying to make this simple and just follow the 2 things that work. 1800 calories or less and daily exercise. Although I will admit that I am also trying to remove all trans fat from the family diet and lower my overall carb intake while increasing my fiber intake. Basically along with being thin, I really want to eat healthier. But my measure will be the 2 rules.
I called the insurance company and found out that I need a letter of medical necessity sent in. Do you think I can just send a picture with the caption "What do you think?" I had an appointment with my GP today, but am getting advice that maybe the letter would be better written by my surgeon. OK, but I don't have a surgeon. So I will cancel the appt with my GP and see if I can find a local seminar. I need to learn more and start researching surgeons. I didn't want to take that step until I knew it would be covered by Insurance, but I am pretty sure I qualify no matter what because I am "superobese". Yep - someone who is 225% over their ideal weight is considered Superobese. When I read that, I thought...well, that's not me...right. Than I did the math. Goal weight 139 X 225% = 312.75 My current weight of 334.4 puts me well into the Superobese category.
Lots of times they go by BMI...Mine is 54
Ideal: 18.5-25 - 155 would bring me into the ideal range, my goal of 139 would put me at 22
Overweight: 25-30 - 180 needed here
Obese: 30-40 - 240 needed here
Morbidly obese: Over 40 - 305 would eek me into this category
Extremely obese - Over 50 - this is where I am now
Triple obese or Super-supra obese - Over 60 - 370 lbs would put me in this category
Let's not even entertain the thought of 370, OK. I am unhappy enough at 334.4.

What else can I do but try

Sandi, the days that really make a difference are the ones when it's NOT exciting and you're NOT fired up and it's NOT something you want to do AT ALL ... but you do it anyway. Sometimes it's just putting one foot in front of the other and you're not even sure why; it's just going through the motions.
But that's what will get you to your goal - doing it when it's hard and you're not motivated. Just doing it because it needs to be done. I'm proud of you for packing your lunch and planning for the gym ! And I'm proud of you for coming here and posting today when it's the last thing you wanted to do.
You're doing the right thing by exploring surgery now and not waiting for summer. It doesn't mean you have to do it but it makes sense to figure out your options so you can make informed decisions later.
And one thing I'm certain of - you are capable of maintaining your weight where it is right now! So forget all that superduper morbidly obese stuff and focus on one day at a time.
Love ya!
Kudos Sandi for packing your lunch and planning on the gym and also for logging on keeping up with your blog. Good job starting the paperwork for WLS. A good site is www.obesity.org They have names of surgeons for your area and there is usually someone that knows this surgeon and can tell you what they liked or didn't like about him/her. Also you can probably find out any info you need about WLS on this site. They know just about everything there is to know about it.

Sandi, actually that wasn't the right web site, when I find the address I will post it.

Hi Sandi. Yes that is definately the site I was thinking about. There is a spot where you click on find a surgeon and that takes you to a map of the US. Click on your state and it comes up with a bunch of surgeons and testimonials from people who have been to these drs. Also they can help you out with what is needed for the insurance company etc. These guys know all about co-morbidities and what the insurance company needs. This is a really informative site, should help you out lots.
